The safest and the most economic way of oil and gas transportation is through pipelines.With the development of national economy,the natural gas industry has been given top priority for development.XT0 and X80 alloy steel pipeline have been successfully developed on the national key project-West-East Gas Transmission Pipehne.X80 alloy steel pipeline will be adopted on large scale on the Second West-East Gas Transmission Pipeline Project.This paper introduces a number of distinctive characteristics of the Second West-East Gas Transmission Pipeline Project and elaborates on the development of high-strength alloy steel pipeline as well as analysis on the three types of alloy steel pipeline.This paper focuses on the weldability of X80 alloy steel pipeline and analyzes cold cracking, HAZ softening and the match-up of strength and toughness of welds and materials.It also introduces the latest R＆D of X80 alloy steel and the applications of welding.
