Event frame is a gestalt of experience and an assembly of conceptual structures. With the clauses containing cutting verbs as evidence, the paper argues that the conceptual structures of event frame are coherent and that the action and alternations are semantically connected. Relevant events can be metaphorically extended to various structures of construal. Based on the coherence principle and connection principle, event frame can serve as an adequate model to account for the license of verbs into their relevant alternations. Event frame is also capable of providing some solution to the unsolved problems arising from the debate between lexical semantics and construction grammar.
