The reproductive and mating behaviour of two species of predacious mites,Amblyseius orientalis Ehara and A. nicholsi Ehara et Lee, was studied inthe laboratory. Prior to mating, the males of both species actively searchedfor females and helped the female deutonymphs moult. Actual inseminationoccurred in both species in the venter--to-venter, the males were underneaththe females posteriorly. The duration of copulation of A. orientalis Eharawas longer than that of A. nicholsi Ehara et Lee. From the end of matingto the first egg reproduced, the females of both species needed to feed heavily.The eggs of A. orientalis Ehara were reproduced together or separately, butthe eggs of A. nicholsi Ehara et Lee were reproduced separately only.
