Libraries in the digital age construct distinctive databases as one of the main measures to take challenges. The aim of building distinctive databases is to give full play to the functions of libraries in providing information resources, serving teaching and scientific research, and satisfying users＇ need to the biggest extent. The construction of distinctive databases can enhance libraries＇ competitive capabilities, consolidating libraries in schools of higher education in the information age. This article first analyzes the concepts and principles of distinctive databases, then elaborates on the meaning of distinctive database construction, and finally talks about the design of database structure, the design of metadata, quality control and copyright problems.
