Meat consumption in China can be generally divided into several phases： first phase is from 1950s to 1980s when there was few meat consumption with the focus on grain consumption, the national annual meat consumption per capita was about 10 kg; and even in 1978, the national annual meat consumption per capita was only 6 kg for farmers and 18 kg for urban residents.
