“开漳圣王”陈元光籍贯辨析

On the Native Place of Chen Yuanguang "the Sacred Prince Developer of Zhangzhou"

陈元光里籍有河东说、揭阳说、固始说三种,而河东是陈元光家族的郡望,揭阳也不过是广东志书从"扬善颂贤"的感情出发硬拉名人的结果,而固始说不仅有可信的文献依据,而且从唐初全国形势、军事制度以及固始人口状况来分析,也最具合理性。

There are three different views on the native place of Chen Yuanguang which are the places of Hedong, Jieyang and Gushi. Hedong was the prefecture where his family achieved prestige, while Jieyang was no more than a place where the famous as Chen Yuan- guang was recorded by Guangdong Chorography so as to dedicate the local people＇ s admiration to his kindness and wisdom. Gushi was actually Chen＇ s native place, for which the credible historic material has been found. Judging from the national situation, the military system and the population of the early Tang Dynasty, Gushi view is of great rationality.
