Chen Baisha＇s links to Tao Yuanming and Taoism are reflected in his aesthetic appreciation of poverty and his pursuit of natural tastes. While adhering to the Confucian tradition of being content in poverty and devoted to one＇s moral principles, Chen Baisha manifested his individuality and aloofness, revealing the Taoist influence on him. His pursuit of natural taste was obviously related to Taoism, but he consistently regarded soul-searching as the core of hi.s thinking and took the realization of the realm of saints and sages and the pursuit of benevolent government as his goal.
