In the Anglo- Saxon period, Christianity has become an important factor on the development of Germanic kingship. Christianity reinforced the sanctity of kingship, and encouraged the king to enact law code. In addition, Christianity promoted the unification of England. However, Christianity not only strengthened the kingship, but also restricted the kinship. No matter how strong the Germanic kingship is, the British kings were subject to the authority of God.
