The treatise On the Sublime is one of the most important ancient treatises on rhetoric and aesthetics by Longinus. While regarding the five essential factors in literary work on lofty style, it carried on the detailed elaboration. The view of dialectical materialism on the sublime is discussed on the unification of outwardness and subjectiveness, in letter and in spirit, as well as the decisive factor of the practice and the positive function of right consciousness. In the relations of these essential factors, it finally rises from the literature theory to the human soul lofty boundary, which has completed a historical transformation.
