社会主义社会文明有广义和狭义之分,狭义的社会主义社会文明是相对于社会主义物质文明、政治文明、精神文明而言的,是指社会主义在社会领域中创造的积极成果,主要表现为社会事业和社会生活的进步。社会主义社会文明是社会主义文明系统不可或缺的组成部分,是社会主义的重要特征。建设社会主义社会文明是构建社会主义和谐社会的迫切要求,是实现全面建设小康社会宏伟目标的重要条件,更是广大人民群众的强烈愿望。社会主义社会文明建设要以解决人民群众最关心、最直接、最现实的问题为重点,着力发展社会事业、处理社会矛盾、完善社会管理、维护社会稳定和增强社会创造活力。

Socialist civilization in its narrow sense refers to the positive achievements created in the social realm in a socialist society,which is bespoken by the improvement of social undertakings and living standard. It is an indispensable part of the socialist civilization and bears the important characteristics of socialism. As the focus of the masses＇ concern, it is imperative that we build socialist civilization so as to boost the social undertakings, settle the social conflicts, perfect social management, protect social stability and strengthen the creativity energy of the whole society.
