"外具花柳之姿,内秉风雷之性"的夏金桂在《红楼梦》的女性形象塑造上颇具特殊性,大观园女儿是诗化的、美化的、理想的,夏金桂却是写实的、现实的、真实的。作者通过塑造夏金桂这一恶女形象寄寓劝惩之旨,从反面来警戒世人不要妄动风月之情,展示了"妄动"之害。

Xia Jinggui, a fmale image in A Dream of Red Mansions, with the delicate beauty and brisk character, showed a considerable particularity. The women in Daguanyuan were poetic, artistic, and idealized, but this woman, Xia Jinggui, was objective, realistic and actual. Through the portrayal of the character, the author aimed at promoting virtues and punishing evils, gave a lesson to people not to strike the emotion in sexuality.
