When studying the issues of socialist theory, Engels put forward and discussed the basic principles of practicing socialism： studying socialism as science; placing socialism on the basis of reality and constantly changing and reforming socialist society. These principles provide a right direction for the construction and development of a new socialist society and have great practical significance for further development of socialism with Chinese characteristics at a new stage in the new century.
