To explore the toxic effects of phenolic compounds on aquatic organisms, the dynamic changes of glutathione-S7 transferase (GST)and acetylcholinesterase (AChE)activities in Moina macrocopa exposed to different concentrations of phenol (0.25, 0.75, 1.25, 1.75, 2.25mg·L^-1), pyrocatechol( 0.10, 0.25, 0.40, 0.55, 0.70mg·L^-1)and resorcinol(0.015, 0.030, 0.045, 0.060, 0.075mg ·L^-1)were studied. Results showed that lower concentrations of the three phenolic compounds induced the activities of GST but inhibited them at higher concentrations after 24h exposure. After 48h exposure, The GST activities were all inhibited under the exposure of phenol and pyrocatechol, but the GST activities were induced at first and then inhibited under the exposure of resorcinol. The activities of AChE were all induced at first and then inhibited under the exposure of the three phenolic compounds. The GST and AChE activities under 48h exposure were significantly lower than those of 24h exposure. Lower concentrations of the three phenolic compounds induced the activities of GST and AChE but inhibited at higher concentrations and longer time. In conclusion, the activities of GST and AChE could obviously reflect the toxicity of the three phenolic compounds to M. macrocopa. According to the preliminary analysis, GST and AChE could be served as biomarkers to assess the biochemical toxicity of the phenolic contamination to aquatic organisms.
