A Study of Ba People's Snake-worship Culture from the Chinese Character "巴"

"巴"字是基于巴人的崇蛇文化而产生的。远古巴人特定的生存环境以及在多种原因影响下形成的族群文化心理,使其形成了独特的崇蛇文化。先有巴文化,尔后有"巴"字。作为巴文化之产物同时又是巴文化之一部分的"巴"字,其构字理据与巴人的崇蛇文化有着十分紧密的联系,并鲜明体现了巴人崇蛇这一族群文化特征。

The Chinese character＂巴＂ was invented on the basis of Ba people＇ s worship of snake. The cultural psychology, which was formed under the influences of the peculiar living conditions of ancient Ba people and other factors, brought about the snake-worshipping culture. Ba culture preceded the Chinese character ＂巴＂ As a product as well as one part of Ba culture, the character ＂巴＂ is closely connected with snake-worship culture, and it is a vivid expression of the cultural characteristics of the Ba people.
