Objectives:To explore the relationship between the sensory disturbances and the abnormality of somatosensory evoked potentials in patients with cerebrovascular disease. Methods:A comparative study was performed on somatosensory evoked potentials (SEP) in 49 cases of cerebrovascular disease (CVD) including 28 patients with sensory disturbances and 21 patients only with motor disturbances but wthout sensory disturbances, and 10 normal subjects. Results:The central conduction time (CCT) of SEP was prolonged in the affected side in group of sensory disturbance. A significant difference was noted as compared with the nonaffected side and normal subjects. The abnormality rate of amplitude ratios in both N 20 _P 25 and P 15 was significantly higher than thConclusions:These data suggested that a close relationship exists between SEP changes and sensory disturbances in CVD. SEP might be an objective indicator in judging the existence of sensory disturbances in CVD.
