By defining the three key concepts： authenticity, authentic leader and authentic leadership, the paper expounds the mechanism in which the subordinators appreciate their own organizational culture, which helps create an authentic atmosphere, under the influence of authen- tic leaders. The self - awareness and serf - regulation of leaders are emphasized in the developmental process of authentic leadership. The paper offers a life - story approach to the development of authentic leaders. The author argues that authentic leadership rests heavily on the self - relevant meanings which the leader attaches to his or her life experiences, and these meanings are captured in a leader＇ s life - story.
