地震强度可用两种不同的震级测量。最常用的是由美国地震学家查尔斯·里克特于1935年设计的里氏震级。它根据地震仪所记录的地震释放出的能量计算震级。里氏震级每上升1级,震强增加10倍。震级为5级以下的地震造成轻微破坏,7级或7级以上为大地震。另一种是麦加利震级,它根据估测地震所造成的破坏程度计算地震强度。
Two different seales(等级) used to measure strength of an earthquake. The most common one is the Richter scale, devised by AmeriCan gist (地震学家), Charles Richter, in 1935. It caicu2 lates the magnitude (震级) of an earthquake from seismograph recordings that measure the amount of energy released. An increase of 1 point on the Richter scale means that an earthquake is 10 times stronger than one with the next value below.
