Confucian Studies in America

美国与中国的交往始于18世纪。19世纪初,美国"基督教差会"向中国派传教士,通过传教士,中国文化典籍大批输入美国。19世纪70年代起,美国汉语教学和中国学研究蓬勃发展,美国商人和企业家纷纷设立基金会资助中国学研究。美国的儒学研究既全面又系统,如经学史研究、经学思想研究、孔子研究、孟子研究、荀子研究、宋明理学研究、清代儒学研究等,都有成批著作出版。

At the beginning of the 19th century, American ＂missionary society＂ sent missionaries to China, who spread a lot of Chinese classics into America. Since the 1870s, Chinese teaching and studies of China had begun to flourish. American merchants and entrepreneurs established foundations to sponsor those studies. Confucian studies in America gradually grew comprehensive and systematic and many academic books were published.
