Reflections Halfway on the Road of My Academic Climb

"先天不足,后天失调"不仅是第二代中国现代文学学者的缺陷,而且在当前已成为中坚力量的第三代中国现代文学学者中也存有此缺陷;中国现代文学第二代学者中有的受"驯服工具论"的深刻影响,身上带有奴性,但也有人坚持独立思考,勇敢反抗。奴性是一种社会产物,只要社会需要,只要体制不变,即使没有听过"驯服工具论"说教的,照样也会奴性十足;第二代中国现代文学学者受恩泽于第一代中国现代文学学者,第一代中国现代文学学者担负起创建中国现代文学学科的任务,但他们是"未完成的一代",尽管有创见学科的功绩,但未得到充分的发展;历史总是要不断地重写的,我最近修订的我的《中国现代文学发展史》(第三版)是要建立以"人的文学"为主线的新格局,以此角度去贯串整个30年的中国现代文学。

＂Weakness in basis and failure to compensate＂ is a defect in the second and third generations of modem Chinese literary scholars. Influenced by the instrumentalism of tameness, the second generation has a kind of servility, though some of these scholars are independent in thinking and courageous to resist. The first generation, responsible for the founding of modem Chinese literature as a discipline and in spite of their achievement, is virtually an ＂unaccomplished generation＂. The History of Modem Chinese Literary Development, which I recently revised, aims at a new layout based on ＂literature of humans＂.
