Glucose is a major source of energy for most mammalian cells, and it is necessary for cells to maintain glucose levels in normal transport and metabolism. Glucose Transportes(GLUTS) are the main cellular transporters that mediates the uptake of glucose. GLUTS are distributed extensively over all tissues of the body and are needed in keeping tissues in normal physiological function. There are different types of GLUTS in different tissue. And the abnormally high level of glucose, as seen in diabetes, leads to the changed expression of GLUTS mRNA and protein, which may play an important role in the mechanism of diabetes-related diseases.
