This paper attempts to explore a corpus-based approach to the acquisition of spoken English vocabulary. It first points out the common problems that foreign/second language learners may encounter in the acquisition of spoken English vocabulary which are further analyzed from the cognitive perspective. The discussion then centers on how the learners should use spoken English corpora and software to acquire English collocations and synonyms so as to improve their oral English.
