改革开放30年来,理论界人士对"五四"的理解经历了一个不断变化的过程,在这个过程中,人们对"五四"的价值与意义赋予了不同的内涵。每一次对"五四"所作的重估,都引发了不同层面的争论,这些争论都与当代中国面临的社会现实与思想问题息息相关,这显示当代"五四"观念是处在持续丰富与充实的状态之中的,研究与分析这种状态,正是"五四"观念史研究的任务。通过"五四"观念史的研究,有助于理论领域在正确思想主导之下继承"五四"的优良传统。

In the thirty years since the reform and opening up constant changes have taken place in the understanding of the May Fourth Movement among the theoretical circles. During this process different implications have been given to the value and meaning of the May Fourth Movement. Every reevaluation of this movement has been accompanied by controversies at different levels, all of which are closely bound up with the social realities and ideological questions confronted by contemporary China. This indicates that the ideas of the May Fourth Movement are in a constantly enriching and substantiating state. It is just the task of the studies on the history of the ideas of the May Fourth Movement. Studies in this field will help the theoretical quarters carry forward the fine traditions of the May Fourth Movement under the guidance of correct thinking.
