Chinese Character Components and Translation of English Material Nouns

语言是反映时代发展最直接的元素。因此,在新概念、新事物产生及对其吸收引进的过程中,语言也在相应地发生变化。新的汉语言符号(汉字)的产生有两种途径:造字和借词。在对外来词的借用与翻译过程中,偏旁在表义方面起着极其重要的作用。

Language usually responds most rapidly to the development of a society and thus changes in step with the social progress. New symbols of a language （here restricted to Chinese characters） appear in two ways： coining and loaning. It is pointed out that radicals in Chinese characters can play an important role in the process of translating loan words from English.
