This thesis explores how Faulkner created characters with direct application or allusion to the Biblical Archetype in his novels. With some typical examples, it analyses his creativity in the employment of the mode of archetype.. Faulkner success- fully connects the Biblical Archetype with the social reality of the American South, criticizing the destructive consequence of the racial conflicts as well as the Southern hierarchy on humanity, which results in the decadence of the South.
