The Low-pitched Diminutive Tone in Chinese Dialects

文章考察了将乐城关和樟坪畲话的低变调,认为这种调值为[21]的声调和黎川等地方言中高频的小称变调具有一样的性质。同时指出这些方言存在的小称变调形式具有语言地理类型学的意义,也为探讨赣方言中今读声母为塞音和塞擦音时却又不送气的阳调字的成因提供了线索。

This paper describes the low-pitched diminutive sandhi tones in Chengguan, Jiangle, and the She language in Zhangping, demonstrating that the low [21] tone shares properties with those high-pitched diminutive sandhi tones in places like Lichuan. Such diminutive tones not only have a special status in view of areal linguistic typology, but also shed light on how words with yang （阳） tones in Gan dialects developed, despite the presence of stop and affricate initials while lack aspiration.
