The woman consciousness began to awake in Britain in Victorian Age. Some women were eager to struggle for their freedom in education, economy and love. These revolters were called new woman. The new woman concept in Victorian age that woman generated a better harmonious world absolutely is to combine the merits of both women and men, admit the differences between them, and annihilate the discrimination against women by women' s self-consciousness and self-elevation or choose self-renunciation and self-sacrifice only by women' s own silent revolt is demonstrated in this thesis through the comparison of the two heroines in Jane Eyre and The Mill on the Floss.
