In Beloved, Toni Morrison revolts the traditional black novels, describing Amy Denver, an indentured servant who exists as "the other" in the white-male dominated society, as an important healer to Sethe. Under the particular background of that period of history, the black is abused by the white. However, what Amy has done to Sethe deconstructs traditional beliefs. Her key role in the story is demonstrated through the exploration of her name and identity. And Amy's narrative perspective reveals the pain and shame which slaves are suffering more directly.
