Many English plant words not only abound in their cultural connotations but also play an important role in beautifying man＇s linguistic expressions. This paper aims to explore better interpretations and proper usages of English plant words. By citing concrete examples, the sources of cultural connotations of English plant words are analyzed in terms of their exterior features, attributes and national culture. Furthermore, their rhetorical functions are studied when English plant words are used together with some figures of speech.
