《孽子》突出了强烈的逃亡意识。小说描写了一群同性恋者的挣扎逃亡,这是因为他们在成长的过程中面临着两大困境:一是现实环境的巨大压力让这个特殊群体之间相互猜疑,二是时间的流逝及人生衰老、人生苦短的必然规律。他们在逃亡中寻找心中的寄托和父爱,同时体味人生的真谛。

Pai Hsien-yung＇ s novel The Evil Son highlights the strong sense of exile. The novel describes the struggle of a group of homosexuals on the exile, the reason why they flee, and two difficulties they faced in the process of growth. The first one of difficulties is to face the reality of the huge environmental pressure and ＂the evil son＂ among special groups of suspicion ; the second one is to face the necessary of laws the passage of time, the short-term life and the aging in the life, the inexorable law upon the short life. They flee for searching sustenance and the father＇ s love as well as the true meaning of life and the sentiment.
