Composition rating methods and rating scales are of vital importance to the reliability of writing tests. As the class-room based writing test differs from the proficiency tests, the corresponding rating method and scales should be different. This papre aims to find a proper rating method suitable for the class-room based writing test of English majors of polytechnic and the corresponding rating scale,by analyzing the nature of the class-room based writing test and the requirements for English major of polytechnic.
