Ted Hughes' early poems show an exhibition of a true nature for the enthusiastic exposition of the power of animals. In a sense, Hughes' exemplification of nature is also an expression of his concern over human beings and humans' relationship with na- ture, similar to the Taoist thought. This paper aims to reveal the Taoist way of thinking in Hughes' early poems by reading Hawk in the Rain (1957) and Lupercal (1960) from the perspectives of Intuition and Being Itself.
