In the last half of 19^th century, based on the Western educational ideas, American Protestant missionary schools in China began to adopt the new style of physical education in their schools. This kind of physical education in the missionary schools did achieve some successes but also met many obstacles due to cultural and traditional differences. According to this, the paper discusses and analyzes the development of the new style of physical education in American Protestant schools in China at the time.
