The Liudingshan tomb group five km to the south of Dunhua City proper of Jilin is a royal and aristocratic cemetery of the Bohai State under the Tang Dynasty. It was re-surveyed in 2004. The results affirmed the existence of 130 tombs in the second burial area. These graves can be divided into two types: earthen pits and stone-structured ones. The re-excavation of the seven previously revealed large-sized stone-chambered tombs brought to light a new type of grave with the outer structure completely unknown in past field archaeology. The structure of the nine tombs excavated this time shows that a chronological division can be made for the earthen-pit and stone-structured tombs. Judged by their shape and layout, they must go back to the earlier Bohai period.
