Objective To evaluate the quality of life (QOL) for patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI) patients. Method A total of 55 TBI patients included in our study, whose Glasgow coma scale (GCS), Glasgow outcome scale (GOS), Kamofsky patient scale (KPS) and WHOQOL-BREF scores were observed during and atter their admission. Until Feb.2008, detailed follow-up results with a mean period of 3 years were got in 55 patients. All these data were analyzed statistically. Result The WHOQOL-BREF score not only correlated with GCS, GOS and KPS significantly, but also well reflected the long-term recovery of TBI patients. Conclusion The use of a multidimensional approach that also reflects physical, psychosocial and cognitive aspects proved to be effective in assessing the QOL of TBI patients and in evaluating the different new treatment methods.
