On Costume Design in Zhang Ailing's Novels and the Characterization of Public Images

现代女作家张爱玲的中短篇小说集《传奇》中出现了大量的服饰描写,服饰设计成为作者塑造人物公共形象的一个重要手段,《传奇》通过服饰设计塑造人物的公共形象主要表现在三个方面,即借服饰标明职业、借服饰体现社会阶层、借服饰说明角色变换。

There is much description ofcosturnes in Zhang Ailing＇s collection Legend. Costume design has become an important means for the characterization of public images. In Legend, the characterization of public images through costume design is manifested in three aspects, i.e., to identify occupation, to reflect social classes and to explain role change.
