The Animistic Belief of Taboo Seeing Animal Copulation and the Yi folk Ritual to Avoid Misfortune

彝族民间以自然物候占卜吉凶的方法不胜枚举,而忌见动物交配是一种非常普遍的民俗文化现象。按照民间的说法,目睹某些动物的交配行为是不祥之兆,要请人焚香化纸禳祓。在彝族民间以生殖为主导的信仰世界里,忌讳动物交配实际上是图腾崇拜与性污秽观念相结合后出现的,对动物交配这种自然界经常见到的现象产生出来的泛灵观念是图腾崇拜的遗风,反映了先民对图腾的敬畏。

Taboo seeing animal copulation is the popular folk custom cuhural phenomenon in Yi community. According to the folk tradition, it is the inauspicious if some one saw animal copulation, which must carry through a special ritual to avoid misfortune. The author opens out the essential of this taboo in this paper.
