Thomas Hardy was a celebrated 19th century English novelist and short story writer, and Jude the Obscure was the last of his significant novels. The precocious and thought-provoking Little Father Time, a child of distinctive character, is analyzed by using "intertextuality" theory. The character proves creative assimilation and adaptation of traditional English literature. Also, in the character is embodied an evolution of the theme recurrent in Hardy's other novels. Thus, the novels' significance as well as the auther's intention stand out in relief against the network of intertextualization.
