针对学术界以太平天国运动在发展过程中不同特点作为分期标志,进行分期,文章提出不同意见,指出以太平天国运动(1843—1864年)的农民运动性质作为分期依据,以1851年1月金田起义作为分期标志,将太平天国运动分为两个时期。前期为太平天国运动的秘密反清时期,后期为太平天国运动的公开反清时期。此种分期更为简明扼要。
