Investigation on Origin and Development of Liu Zongyuan's Calligraphy

柳宗元擅长的书体是隶草,其行楷具有虞体风格。其隶草师从张芝、钟繇、索靖、张旭、皇甫阅等等;其行楷师从"二王"、虞世南诸人;柳公权师承柳宗元之说无法确证。

Liu Zongyuan was a master in official and cursive script while featuring Yu style in his regular and running script. Liu learnt calligraphy from Zhang Zhi, Zhong Yao, Suo Jing, and ＂two Wangs＂, and was influenced directly or indirectly by other masters like Yu Zhinan, Zhang Xu, Huangpu Yue. It＇s believed that Liu was not m succession to Liu Gongquan for they share the same family name but the styles are quite different.
