On Preservation and Renewal of Historic Conservation of the City

城市保护与城市更新不断转化，交替进行，共同构成城市持续的生长活动。历史性城市往往表现为各个历史时期的“拼贴”，应着重选取典型历史风貌地段进行保护。而历史风貌地段不能切断自身的发展，应是顺应城市新陈代谢的“有机更新”。

Historic conservation and renewal of the cities keeps replacing each other, they constitutes the complete course of city growth together. The central point of historic cities' conservation is to pick out some historic districts to protect. As to historic districts, their protection should not cut off the development of themselves, instead, it should be organic renewal which corresponds with the metabolism of city.
