This paper analyses several dam level measurement methods commonly used in China and their respective advantages and disadvantages. Described in detail are the principles of laser measurement of water level and characteristics,as well as the automatic reservoir water level monitoring system composed of the laser range finder. Finally,the problems in the application of the laser monitoring system and their solutions are studied.
