《老子》五千言，文简意繁，费学子千年猜详。对作品主题的认识，见解纷纭，历来争持不下。本文作者通过对老子生活环境以及作品内容的分析，认为《老子》有一个核心主题，就是治国理民。

With merely 5,000 Chinese characters, Laozi is pithy in writing but numerous in moral, which has aroused scholars＇ guess for thousands of years. As for its theme, there have been diverse and confused opinions and each has held his stand. Through the analysis of Laozi＇s habitation and the contents of his works, the author thinks that there is a core subject in Laozi, that is, how to administer a country and manage the people.
