Clay sculpture is a kind of ancient traditional folk handicraft art popular in China. Taking clay as the raw material, the handicraft workers mould the sculptures with their hands. Most of the clay sculptures are figurines, animals and legendary images from the myths, which reflect people's anticipation of the good life. The simple and traditional patterns of the clay sculptures are still very popular. In May 2006, the State Council of China approved that clay sculpture art be listed among the first list of national-level non-material culture heritages.
