The Dragon Boat Festival, also called Double Fifth Festival, is celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month.
In early times, the Dragon Boat Festival was a festival for sacrificing to totems among the south ethnic minorities. It has a history of 4,000 to 5,000 years. Every year on the fifth day of the fifth month of the lunar calendar, the people would hold the activities of "dragon totem" ritual, dragon boat racing, and eating zongzi. Subsequently, the people connected this festival with the date on which the patriotic poet Qu Yuan threw himself into the Milo River. And this festival began to be held to commemorate Qu Yuan.
