2005—2006克利伯环球帆船赛中，青岛首次成为赛事登陆城市，“青岛号”作为惟一一条中国的帆船参加了该项赛事，青岛从此与这项全球闻名的环球帆船赛事结下了不解之缘。
Qingdao will send a 68-feet-long sailboat named ＂Qingdao＂ to participate in the Clipper 09- 10 Round the World Yacht Race. To make a better display of the brilliant image of the Chinese sailboat in this world top-level race, the hull of ＂Qingdao＂ will be decorated with the pattern of a dragon, which, together with the handwritten characters （Qingdao）, show the image of Qingdao to the world.
