摘要
传统的文学批评家关注的是作者的创作意图、作品的时代背景、社会意义、人物特征、故事情节、语言风格等等。倡导从功能语言学,尤其是最新发展的评价理论的途径研究文学作品,摆脱了传统的随感式和印象式的文学批评方法,探索建立一种多维的、立体的、定性的、定量的、科学的语言学分析体系,从新的角度重新审视文学问题,这对文学批评和文学教学都是有启示和推动作用的,通过对文学语篇分析来检验功能语言学在文学研究和语篇分析中的可行性。
This paper advocates to study literary works under the framework of the Appraisal Theory of Systemic Functional Linguistics, for the purpose of demonstrating some prominent features of evaluation unique to the literary text produced by the employment of different evaluative resources. First the paper discusses the theoretical foundation of Systemic Functional Linguistics approaches to literary studies, which includes the linguistic turn, Saussure's linguistics, and Halliday's functional stylistics. Then it analyses the advantages of linguistic approa's most famous short story A Rose for Emily as an example to perform evaluative analysis of a literary work to demonstrate that Appraisal Theory is a powerful tool for discourse analysis.
