Interpersonal communication begins with greeting words which reflect the identity, status and relationships among different people. They can also reflect different interpersonal relationship of mutual respect, friendliness and harmony. Sino-Japanese greeting expressions differ a lot due to the divergences in their cus- toms. The appropriate use of greeting expressions is essential in Sino-Japanese exchange. The paper deals with the differences in Sino-Japanese greeting expressions, which is of benefit to understanding the plentiful and exquisite cultural implications and enhancing the friendly exchange of the two countries.
