Advanced Culture in Light of the Cultural Instrument Theory

要坚持社会主义先进文化的前进方向,首先必须厘清先进文化的本质内涵。而对先进文化的理解与辨识,取决于对文化的本质与功能的把握。根据文化工具论,文化是人类创造力的果实,文化是满足人需求的工具,文化作为工具对人的报答力是有限的,而先进文化就是报答力最大或最好用的工具。

Learning the essence of an advanced culture is the prerequisite of keeping the orientation of the socialist advanced culture. Our understanding of an advanced culture is decided by how we interpret the essence and function of an established culture. Cultural instrumentalists hold that human beings create cultures which meet our needs consequently, and although the reward that a culture gives is limited, an advanced culture is most rewarding if it is regarded as an instrument.
