“从”字的“率领”义及来源试探

Study on the Character Cong's Meaning of Guiding and Its Origins

对于古汉语"主语+从+宾语+[动词+(宾语)]"这一句式中的"从"字,学界多释为"使……跟从(跟随)"、"及物动词用作使动"等,或释为"跟从"。这样释义,致使有些句子窒碍难通,而如果把此用法的"从"字释为"率领"、"带领",既合于词义系统性原则和词义引申规律,又有训诂根据,也使文意更顺畅。

The academia interprets the character Cong as having sb./sth, follow or follow sb./sth, in the old Chinese language. However, it makes awkward examples in certain sentences. If we give it a new meaning of guiding or leading, not only can we smooth the text by applying derivative rules in lexical meaning but also we can trace back to its origins.
