简.奥斯丁(Jane Austen)是英国18世纪末19世纪初著名的女性作家。她被喻为反讽大师。其代表作之一《爱玛》中的反讽艺术被评论家从不同的文学角度进行了分析和解读。从自由间接引语的角度结合语言学工具对《爱玛》中的情景反讽进行阐释,并探讨奥斯丁作为一名在男性为中心社会里的女性作家的叙述策略。

Jane Austen is a famous British female novelist at the turn of the 18th and the 19th century. She is considered a successful ironist. The art of irony in Emma, one of her masterpiece, has been commented from different literary perspectives. This paper tries to analyze the situational i- rony from the perspective of free indirect discourse with the help of some linguistic devices and to explore the narrative strategies of Jane Austen who lived in a male--dominant society.
